Chinese Whole Chicken (Instant Pot) How To Cook Soy Sauce Chicken

But these simple & easy to follow recipes work with any pressure cooker! All pressure cookers work on the same, simple principle: Steam pressure.

Within the sealed pot, the steam builds up therein to a very high pressure, which helps food cook much faster than other traditional methods, such as with crock pots and or ovens!

Recipe
1 whole chicken (2 1/2 lbs. to 3 lbs. for 6 quart Instant Pot)
1/2 to 3/4 cup dark soy sauce (or dark mushroom soy sauce)
3 pieces ginger (thumb size)
2 stalks green onions
6 whole cloves garlic

3 tablespoons Chinese oyster sauce (optional)
2 tablespoons sesame oil (optional)
3 to 6 tablespoons light soy sauce (optional)

Marinade chicken in dark soy sauce for 1/2 hour to 1 hour each side. put ginger, green onions and garlic cloves inside cavity of chicken. Scoop 6 to 8 tablespoons of the marinade into the cavity.

Cooking in the Instant Pot:
put metal basket in the bottom of the Instant Pot. put in 3 cups water. Set chicken on the basket. Pour remaining marinade over the chicken. Setting at high pressure. Cooking time is 5 minutes per lb. The release is a natural release, for about 20 minutes or more. Let chicken cool 10 to 15 minutes befor cutting. Enjoy!

Cooking in a Coverd Pan or Pot:

put chicken in a dish that fits in the pan or pot. put the dish with the chicken in the bottom of the pan or pot. Add water about 2/3 the height of the dish. Bring water to a boil. then turn down to low to medium. put the cover on and simmer the chicken for 30 minutes to 1 hour. Cooking time depends on the size of the chicken. Let chicken cool 10 to 15 minutes before cutting. Enjoy!
