How to Cook Idiyappam In Instant Pot- String hoppers- Popular Breakfast Recipe
You’ve probably heard of the
Instant Pot ¯\_(ツ)_/¯But these simple & easy to follow recipes work with any pressure cooker! All pressure cookers work on the same, simple principle: Steam pressure.
Within the sealed pot, the steam builds up therein to a very high pressure, which helps food cook much faster than other traditional methods, such as with crock pots and or ovens!
Idiyappam or String Hoppers or Rice noodles, a popular South Indian & Srilankan breakfast dish. Making Idiyappam from scratch is an art, when the dough falls in the shape of noodles we will do a happy dance. In this video, I’ve cooked the Idiyappam in the Instant pot- in pressure setting for 3 minutes with fast pressure release. Beautiful melt into the mouth idiyappams will be ready to enjoy with chicken/mutton/beef curries or veg stews etc. For kids, pour coconut milk and sugar, they will love this combination.

**Ingredients**
Rice flour- 1 1/2 cups (I used Double horse brand)
Water- 1 1/2 cups
Salt- 1/2 tsp
Grated coconut
Coconut oil
**Preparation**
In a wide saucepan, let the water come to a slight boil, add salt and rice flour. Combine well using a wooden spoon.
Remove the pan from the heat.
Let cool down for 5 minutes; do not completely cool down dough will turn dry.
While the dough is warm, knead well for at least 5 to 10 minutes till soft and smooth.
Divide the dough into 4 equal parts.
Grease idli plates with oil; add 1 tbsp grated coconut.
Fill the idiyappam mould with one handful dough and make idiyappams. Let noodles fall on the plates.
Stack up the plates.
Into the stainless steel pot, add 1/2 cup water.
put the stacked plates. Close with the lid.
Select pressure cooking, set TIME TO 3 MINUTES at HIGH Pressure.
After 3 minutes of cooking, do a fast pressure release.
Remove the plates from the pot, wear a mitten or using a kitchen towel; it’s hot, hot…
Let cool down for 5 to 10 minutes, idiyappam will set well.
Serve with chicken/mutton/beef curries or veg curry, veg stew, etc.

Note: For other rice flour brand, adjust the amount of water to make a soft/smooth dough.
