Instant Pot – Split Pea Soup with Ham Bone

You’ve probably heard of the
Instant Pot ¯\_(ツ)_/¯But these simple & easy to follow recipes work with any pressure cooker! All pressure cookers work on the same, simple principle: Steam pressure.
Within the sealed pot, the steam builds up therein to a very high pressure, which helps food cook much faster than other traditional methods, such as with crock pots and or ovens!

What do you with a leftover ham bone from Christmas or Thanksgiving dinner? You make Split Pea soup. Here is a fast and simple Instant Pot recipe.

INGREDIENTS:
1 onion, chopped
2 celery stacks, chopped
3 carrots, chopped
3 cloves garlic shopped
salt & pepper to taste
1 tsp. cumin
1 tsp. coriander
1 tsp. crushed red pepper
2 cups split peas
2 baking potatoes, cubed
ham bone
2 cups chicken stock (plus 1-cup for thinning out soup if needed)
15 oz can coconut milk
8 oz ham steak, chopped (optional)
DIRECTIONS:
1. Set instant pot to sauté
2. Add vegetables and cook till onions are translucent.
3. Add spices and mix well.
4. Add split peas, potato, chicken stock, and coconut milk to pot and cook for 5 minutes. Then add ham bone. Close lid.
5. Set Instant Pot to SOUP setting, about 18 minutes.
6. Once presaure has released, open lid and thin soup out with extra chicken stock if needed.
7. Garnish with chopped ham steak.
