But these simple & easy to follow recipes work with any pressure cooker! All pressure cookers work on the same, simple principle: Steam pressure.
Within the sealed pot, the steam builds up therein to a very high pressure, which helps food cook much faster than other traditional methods, such as with crock pots and or ovens!
This video is the Malayalam Version of the Moong dal Kheer/ Parippu Pradhaman. The link for the English Version is https://youtu.be/Q9f38fLAxEg . The first step for making this pradhaman or Kheer is to roast 1.5 cups of dal in a pan till it turns golden brown. Now we need to cook the roasted dal using pressure cooker or instant pot. If you are cooking in instant pot, pressure cook for 3 minutes and wait for the pressure to release. You can use pressure cooker and turn off the stove after 2 whistles. do not overcook the dal. Mean while prepare the coconut milk. You can use freshly squeezed coconut milk. I used a packet of Maggie coconut powder (about 250-300 grams). Melt the jaggery or brown sugar. I used about 1.5 cups of brown sugar. Separate some cooked dal and mash it to increase the thickness of the payasam. Add melted Jaggery to the cooked dal. Let it boil and then add the mashed dal. Mix well and stir constantly to make thick mix. Add coconut milk with no lumps. Bring it to boil. For flavor, I mixed 1 tbsp dried ginger powder with Jeera powder and added. Season the payasam with fried coconut pieces. I used butter to fry, you can use vegan butter or Ghee. Mix well and serve hot. This is a very healthy tasty dessert. Try the recipe and leave comments. Today we are going to make a kheer or payasam with splitted moong dal.
